As I consider this, he and Don Rickles are probably already booked to perform together tonight at the Heavenly Comedy Club.

Best series finale of any tv show was “Newhart”. He wakes up as his character in “The Bob Newhart Show” telling his wife, also from that show, that he had the strangest dream!

Probably very few remember he was in Hell is For Heroes with Steve McQueen and James Coburn. He played a division clerk/typist who got lost and ended up being part of a rifle squad on the Siegfried Line. He did his phone bit in a pillbox with a listening device to deceive the Germans. It was totally an ad lib bit, but I thought it was pretty good.

Drafted into the Army during the tail-end of the Korean War, 5′ 8″ Bob had a business management degree from Loyola under his belt so spent most of his two-year stint in OD Green as an enlisted clerk. This made his first film, Hell is for Heroes, so perfect.
