Review: StrikeGold Gun Cleaner, Lubricant and Protectant

The first thing I noticed was the author’s proclamation that gun owners grab the first and cheapest thing on the shelf. Which is 100% marketing spin in my opinion. Everyone I know has their personal favorite. Many of which claim to do the same thing this one does. Seal 1, Frog Lube, Weapon Shield, etc. If it was developed for the military 14 years ago why haven’t we heard of it and why is the military still using mil spec CLP?

100% agree...😁👍

A ton of products throw out “designed for the military" as a marketing ploy. The military has a basic spec that manufacturers need to meet and it doesn't mean it's the best thing on the market.

Wondered the same thing. My son and nephew went army. They both told me all the military allows/uses is breakfree CLP. IMHO that stuff is not worth the can they put it in.

Yeah this stuff is more snake oil. Where can I buy some? 😁
Lol, I actually used to use a oil called Snake Oil from Dillion Precision, it was a synthetic oil used for high speed surgical drills, worked great plus bio-degradable.

Breakfree has its uses for me personally where it seems to clean deposits and residue in .22lr firearms I have way quicker and more efficiently than most other stuff I tried but it can be thicker and get worked into the trigger and smaller components of pistols which leads to a quicker build up of contaminates.

I use a combo of a few different products myself when cleaning and oiling.

I used the snake oil in the past. Not bad stuff. I actually liked the first generation of the Tetra lube. It had teflon particles in it. When used you could see a dancing type action on the surface as it literally seemed to soak into the metal. Loved the stuff. Several years later when i bought more it was different and it no longer had that action and it was nothing like my first buy. I've not used it in about 20ish years and tossed the new I had bought.

I like CLP. For barrels Seal 1 works really well. Gets a lot more carbon than CLP or bore solvent. You gotta make sure you get all that **** back off there though.

I also use a couple battle born products such as the grease syringe and the oil along with old fashioned gun cologne “aka" hoppes #9 solvent and oil.
