RIA - slide disconnector indent

TidalWave

Professional
To all knowledgeable about 1911s, RIA, etc.

I dug out my second 1911, bought NIB several yrs ago - RIA Ultra in 9mm. Very sweet shooter iirc but i soon went back to .45 as far as ‘traditional’ 1911s go… I also haven’t fired or fooled with this one in maybe 4 yrs.

Take a look at the underside of the slide, please. Notice the indent where the disconnector rests. On all my other 1911s, the indent is centered on the flat and has a ‘wall’ all around - no open side... This one is open on one side.

I recall no particular failures, jams, etc. way back when.

Anybody seen this before?? Any potential issues to worry about? A friend is interested in buying but I don’t want any disasters…

Thnx in advance
Tide

i have never seen this before, but i only have 13 45ACP 1911's.

i'll go check my RIA 22 mag 1911..

BRB
Thank you for checking !
My first thought was something sheared off last time i function checked it but i immediately realized that wasn’t possible. The ejector has to have that space to travel inside the slide..

Wow, in over 40+ years with 1911’s, that’s a first, I don’t think it’s anything to worry about, doesn’t look like anything came off, looks like it was machined that way, if the gun works ok, I would just forget about it, never dealt with RIA customer service.

Yeah… I’ve decided it’s most likely no harm. After all, the disconnector is ‘captured’ anyway. I may just point it out to Jimmy and let him decide…
When i got the thing, it was only my 2nd 1911. The M9 (beretta) was adopted like 2yrs before I started my mil career and I never encountered 1911 there. Had no experience until my first RIA.
But it sure is curious, ain’t it ??

Thnx Anni !

Looks like there's a Series 80-type firing pin safety mechanism in there so the manufacturer had to make changes in machining that area? Colt had to with the Series 80.

Call RIA and ask them about it.

I’ll take a closer look sometime. It’s clean & packed up now.
But I don’t think it’s 80 or I surely would’ve noticed the diff when i was fooling with it back then… i think ?

I have RIAs in 9mm and .38 Super. I checked and both are cut just like that. My guess is that its because with the smaller diameter cases that the ejector sits a tad bit closer to the center. I wouldn't worry about it. ;)

Never thought of that, probably what it is, I’ll have to remember that, thanks! Good information
