Any of you S&W revolver guys know why they changed there frame mounted firing pin from a solid base to a hollow base, my 610-3 has this like the pic I am showing from a Guns & Ammo review. My 625 JM has a solid base pin, just wondering. 78FA21DF-F3F3-4D25-BFDE-DB1F5B312761.jpeg

Only thing I could think of (boy that may be dangerous) is I remember when S&W first started with the frame mounted firing pins there were lots of reports of light primer strikes, my thinking is maybe since the pin is hollow base, less mass, maybe it moves faster and strikes a bit harder eliminating the light primer strikes.

I have heard lighter firing pins increase overall speed. Not sure if this in fact true, I am not JM nor am I anywhere close where such a thing would make a noticeable difference in my performance. For someone like him, perhaps every little miniscule edge makes a difference.
