S&W J-Frames Explained

I love my 442 EDC, but I would love to try the shrouded hammer single action just for the heck of it.

I had a 649-1 for many years; I liked the option of being able to c0ck it, as well as being able to thumb the hammer back just far enough to free-wheel the cylinder to check for high primers binding...but I prefer the Centennial style for the higher grip you can get; makes it more controllable shooting with one hand, and more naturally pointing.

I’ve also found the weight of all-steel J frames to be a non-issue in normal street wear—jeans, belt, etc—and it makes a big difference as far as controlling recoil.

Personally, I think the J-frame has a lot more flexibility than its nearest competitor, the LCR. I think they’re better built, as well...

As I have posted before I love my engraved Model 49 Bodyguard. Have owned and carried it since 1972 both as an officer and a civilian. Still carry it occasionally as my EDC. :) I think I paid $89.00 for it and a holster at a police supply store.
