SAINT COMPACT AR 5" INCH BARREL.

Hello. New to the FORUM. Vietnam Vet. Not new to AR's but new to AR Pistol. Is the Compact SAINT EDGE bolt carrier a MIL SPEC size as the standard. Bolt Carrier is described as a "compact bolt carrier" Listed on the website as STE955556B Thanks very much.

First off, welcome to the board and THANK YOU for your service. 🇺🇸🇺🇸

Unfortunately, I don’t know for sure the answer to your question. I have the Saint Victor 7.5” pistol and it has a Mil Spec M16 BCG. I’ve seen the description for the 5.5” Edge BCG and wondered the same thing. But I have not put my hands on one, so I don’t know. XDman is pretty good with this stuff. Maybe he’ll chime in at some point and give a definitive answer. Wish I could be of more help.

The carrier is a proprietary shorter design from Maxim Defense and the bolt is mil-spec allowing for the use of the shorter Maxim buffer tube.

It's a pretty cool design for a more compact AR pistol.

It's proprietary to Maxim Defense brace, cant's swap it out without changing the brace.

The Saint Edge pistol has a typical full auto BCG though, as does the Saint Edge Evac.

Out of curiosity, can you change out the brace and put a full size BCG in the PDW? Will the receiver accept it or is the receiver smaller than mil spec?

It wouldn't fit, the buffer plunges into the BCG directly, where it's half seated within the BCG, and not just by contact into the buffer tube.

The upper is mill spec size, its just the buffer tube thats shorter and requires a shorter bolt.

Thanks very much to all. Appreciate the detailed replies. Thanks for the welcome!! It certainly sounds like the usual (easy) barrel swap (complete upper) would not work unless the buffer and probably spring was changed. Nice to see all the replies.
