Saint Victor Coating on Inside of Receiver

Pat-R

Alpha
Question,

I just purchased a new Tungsten Gray Saint Victor rifle in 5.56. During the first clean and lubrication (after initial range qualification), I noticed a few small pieces of what looked like carbon paper debris (remember that stuff) around the barrel extension where the bolt locking lugs lock up. I cleared them out and in examining the inside of the upper receiver, I could see that this debris was coming from the center of the inside portion of the upper receiver behind the gas tube. It looks like it is flaking off in two small areas where the bolt carrier moves back and forth. The area in question feels smooth to the touch and probably many would not notice except for the debris. Is this normal? I showed it to the agency armorers and they had not seen this before, but I am the first one to purchase a platform with a color coating other than traditional black.

Thanks

Take an air compressor and blow it out, after shooting it a couple times it will be nasty anyways. Thats why it’s a good idea to always clean a new firearm before shooting if you can.

It was inspected, cleaned and lubed before the initial qual. course and zeroing. The only authorized lube for use by agency is Break-Free, don't know if this has an effect on the receiver internal coating material or not. I am not concerned about the appearance, just the durability of the upper receiver and it's corrosion resistance.

The upper and lower are made from forged aluminum, so there should be no corrosion issues, the coating is just a coating, what I don’t understand is how can any agency tell you what lube to use in your personal firearm, when I worked at my sheriff dept, they never had any rules on what lube to use. Now if your agency supplied the rifle, I may see that……🤔🤔
