SCAM ALERT

Old_Me

SAINT
i just got an email from the GEEK SQUAD/Best Buy, saying that my renewal has been accepted and my account debited.

only i have not done business with Best Buy for years, and years. (if any business at all..!!)

the scam is, to cancel or question this "purchase/renewal" you call the number and they want your banking info (of course)

but to be "safe", i still checked my bank accounts, my credit card accounts, and all is fine.

i just read about this long time (but new to me) scam

I like the ones that are full of spelling errors. Ugh.

Thanks.

I get emails from “ <Netflix>/your account/Urgent” address saying my account will be cancelled for nonpayment.
I don’t subscribe or ever had Netflix and only piggybacked on someone else’s account credentials if even that’s still available. I forwarded that email in the Junk bin so there’s no accidentally opening of links. The emails are still coming but always go to Junk now.

Every now and then same Bs emails with bogus looking addresses come from McAfee, ATT, and others I don’t do business with asking for updates, some with “rewards program verification” or “You Won” something from Harbor Freight, Ace Hardware. So there’s no doubt that our electronic devices are vulnerable as is the info we voluntarily provide to retailers to save a few $ off using their App or reward programs.

Did you check the email account that it came from? You usually know right there. And bottom line, no legitimate business emails you with a phone number to give up your bank details. Glad you didn’t get burned

I 've been getting scam messages from some jacka** scammer who says he recently learned how to hack computers on the 'dark web'. He hacked my computer and observed me looking at porn through the laptop camera (it's covered with heavy paper). The scammer went on to say unless I pay $xxxx.xx, the scammer will install a virus on my computer.

He should apply to the DOJ or the FBI...

I get those all the time from all kinds of places. i must really look like a sucker if you only ever got one. I done got about a gazzilion of them just in the last couple years.

Just tell him that his mother was on those porn movies and she is nasty. He just might move on to someone else.

I hear they target the old and doddery. 😎🤪😇🥸

All those junk e-mails you get will have an "opt out" or "remove yourself from our e-mail list" option at the bottom. Never do that! It just tells the scammers that this e-mail address is active and they'll sell it to dozens more scammers. Next thing you know, you'll be buried in junk e-mail.

There was an article I read some time back (Komamdo?) that stated there’s a way emails you receive can be monitored and tracked by the Sender - even if you don’t open (just view) them or open any attached link. This is done by pixel identification when a picture is sent along with the phishing or spam email.
They say the way to avoid tracking is either filter the emails is to trash those that look phishy from the list or disable loading pictures from incoming emails on your control panel.
I did this on the IPad but its a pita because it eliminates all pictures from legitimate sites.

google along with my BitDefender program, generally tells me what might seem to be unsafe.

however this time, the scammers must have a good enough fake website, neither program warned me.

even Norton and Mc Afee, missed a few things.

no program is totally spot on to ID some hackers or scammers.

i get a few of those emails a week. I just block the sender and send them to the deleted folder.
