Hey, new member here, but not a new Springfield owner. I just got my new Waypoint 2020 and am waiting on my new scope. I ordered the Vortex Viper 3-15 X44. Question is what size scope mount? I am thinking medium, but not sure. Any advice would be appreciated. I can’t wait to get it out there and see what it can do.

There's a lot that goes into sizing scope rings to a rifle correctly and this link should help you find the right information you need to get the best results.

Thanks for all the help. My plan was to get the lower rings, but was not sure if that allows enough room between the 44 objective and the barrel. In doing the measurements, adding in the height of the Picatinny rail and the slope of the barrel, I think I am OK with the lower rings.

The 30mm tube w/low mount or medium should be just fine. Do you have the adjustable comb? If so or not you could take your rifle into a lgs and try different mount heights for best ring height. I've done this before. WARNING: Keep it in a locked case and or have a customer service person escort you if these people don't know you. I've carried a rifle in by removing the bolt and held it in 1 hand and the rifle in another with barrel pointing down. Your call!

Yeah, there is a local gun and pawn down the street that will mount and bore sight it for $20.00. That is not bad. I will check and see if they have the rings in stock so we can play with them and see what is best. I do not have the adjustable comb. Good call on taking the bolt out. They are pretty good down at the old local gun and pawn. My first Springfield Rifle, a Saint, had some sort of malfunction on the 61st round though the gun. Wife was shooting it for the first time and her first trigger pull, the mag blew up, the bolt catch and release button blew off and the upper ended up about 1/4 wider than it started. Was just running Federal 55 grain FMJ's through it. Thankfully nobody was hurt and Springfield replaced the gun immediately. I do have a great video of the whole thing. But anyway, I walked it into the gun and pawn store so they could look at it for me. As long as it is in a case, they are cool with it.

I mounted my Vortex Viper PST (44mm) on my 308 with medium rings. Shot it yesterday. I cannot get a good cheek weld, scope is too high, about 1 inch. I've got a solid 4/10th of an inch clearance between the scope and barrel. Low rings will get me 1/10 inch. Picatinny rail height is 4/10th inch. Without rail I suspect I'll have some bolt clearance issues. So it seems my best bet is to install some kind of comb adjustment. Any recommendations?
