Hi,
I know this is an older thread but I wanted to give you a little of my "hands on" experience. Here we are just a couple days before Christmas and the UPS/FedEx guys are working overtime. I got a delivery today of something I've been anxiously waiting for. Since Mrs. BassCliff and I have grandchildren visiting (as often as we can) I wanted to keep the firearms safe from little hands but leave them accessible. I took advantage of the two-for-one sale at
StopBox and got us a matching pair.
This device works as advertised. It's
not a gun safe. It's a "retention" device good for staging your firearm, securing it from little ones but leaving it available. It's a plain black box that you'd never notice if you put a magazine or two on top of it.
I had to practice opening it a few times before the action and procedure were smooth. The foam in the case holds the firearm firmly and gives you a little back pressure when you open it which makes it a little easier. Use the crooks of your fingers instead of the tips to make for an easier opening too.
It comes with a default "combination" which can be changed. The procedure to change the combination is not as convenient as one would hope but it's not difficult for us amateur armchair gunsmiths.
The procedure is on the website.
As you can see, my fully loaded XD9 and extra magazine fits perfectly as does Mrs. BassCliff's slightly smaller CW9. When I tried my Garrison I thought I would have to stage it "left handed" because of the 5" barrel length.
But if you place it just right all the internal compartment ridges will clear and the case will close with the bigger firearm.
When the grandkids visit, whatever we are not carrying will either get disassembled and/or locked up. With the StopBox we can stage a pistol or two on a nightstand or end table and still keep little hands away.
I hope you all have a Blessed and Merry Christmas. Love, hope, peace, and joy to all.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
