My DVR picked up the first two episodes of the new FXHD series yesterday evening. We've not watched it yet. It looks intriguing. My hope is that it proves to be more than simple, abject violence. Yes, it was indeed a very violent epoch; I'll be holding out for an interesting story line.

Watched the first two episodes. Good stuff; been a while since I read the book, but it seems to be sticking fairly true to it, from what I remember.

It is, by the bye, an excellent novel.
Am presently rereading Mthe book again in anticipation of this show.

The old version was my favorite mini series. Lived the way they put you in Blackthorns situation having to learn Japanese.

🤣 i thought the thread was “shotgun” debut.
I did at first, too, an dwas looking foraward to reading about a new shotgun

However, it then occurred to me what it said and I was interestested as I am also interested in checking out the show.

I know nothing about the book or original show, just thought it looked cool

Not really into Japanese culture, per se, but I think the show has potential

With the completion of the miniseries, I'll state that we enjoyed the program a great deal. IMO, oftentimes shows just don't measure-up to all the prerun hype; not so with "Shogun."

+100, same here.

What was nice was the Producers wanted the show to accurately reflect the culture & "old" version of the language at the time.

To bad Mariko had to die. :( The actress playing that character did a great job.
