Shotguns VS. PCCs for home defense

Home invasion is not a crime perpetrated by smart mentally competent individuals. It's a high risk, low reward act. Much easier and safer to knock over a bank. They'll give up the cash readily and won't try to shoot you. As long as you have a solid escape plan, maybe using an easily stolen Kia, you stand a good chance of avoiding apprehension.
Deterrence is always better than having to actively repond and the best deterrence is probably some motion activated outdoor lighting and a large dog with a convincing bark. The dog will hear the perps long before they'd awaken you and the barking of the dog will alert you to the need to dial 911 at once as well as to prepare to resist as needed.
That said, I personally favor a twelve gauge for household defense. Lots of kick, but easy to hit a target with at least a part of the pattern and you won't have rounds penetrating through walls and maybe hitting someone in your family or the neighbor's house.
Right; a couple of myths being repeated, here:

First, pattern; at typical in the house distances—30 feet at the high end—your pattern isn’t going to be very big; maybe the size of the palm of your hand, smaller with some shot (see the pics earlier in this thread of the Federal Flight Control making one big hole in the target)…but it’s not going to be a huge pattern. It’ll be plenty easy to miss the target entirely.

Second: if you’re using a load that’s going to be effective at getting a rapid stop—that is, buckshot—it’s going to go through walls, plural. In fact, 00 buck has been shown to go through just as many walls as a 9mm FMJ. So, Rule 4 still applies—it ALWAYS applies.

good q - oddly enough some actually want to hang around and shoot it out, while many flee. A lot of millionaires live within 20 miles here and very few folks without firearms. Sometime they take the art dealers or custom car collectors hostage. If the leos show up - it's party time. The typical autos are performance autos, tricked out lifted trucks, the best of the european stuff, lambos, porsches, ferraris, bmw benz and on and on.
IMO the Central/South American gangs will be much more aggressive than the usual inner city types.

They are used to being that way in their countries, and have initiation rites that promote aggressive and brutal encounters.

I keep lusting after one of these, with some enhancements.

I have a M-1 carbine handy, loaded with HPs or SPs. Light, trusty and effective, and I can mount a bayonet! OK, the last was sarcasm.

You and me both, none on the shelves around here though.

Please do not tell my Savage 12g model 320 18" barrel, $170.00 new in box, that it is sub par. Same results, rock solid performer.

If Red Green taught us anything, it's that any tool can be the right tool. ;)
Amen brother (all talk of pencils aside), when faced with adversity, one should make use of all available utilities to achieve the desired result.
