Went to LGS this afternoon. Was thinking since windows are off for a while I might just get a new gun. I saw the one I wanted, the M&P metal 2.0 9mm. I got to see the price tag on it and I was done. $919.00! This is before taxes. When he asked what I wanted to see I said I seen enough. I made a B line for the exit. Again, another gun more than MSRP. If anyone has one of these how much did you pay for it.

My LGS has them for $849.00. That's still way too much just to get an M&P with the only major upgrade being it's made of metal. There's plenty of other metal framed pistols I'd put way ahead of this for that price range.

I don't think I've been in a gun shop for a good decade. Went to two yesterday looking for a 10/22 magazine. The prices I saw were jaw-dropping.

I didn't check every price in the places, but the ones I did absolutely shocked me. I saw very few handguns, new or used, in either place under $700. A common 03A3 Springfield, $1300. Some foreign-made off-brand .357 DA revolver, $400. Didn't see a Colt revolver, new or used, under $1000. One of the places had several sets of S&W factory K-frame Target stocks--the kind I used to buy at gun shows for $10 to $20--with price tags nearly twice what I paid for one of my whole Model 19s, new in the box, in 1976.

Makes me glad I've been getting into replica airguns (which cost more than I paid in the '70s for several of my REAL guns).

The 10/22 magazine I bought might have been the only bargain I saw all day. Paid about $30, which is about what I used to pay for similar Butler Creek magazines at gun shows 15 years ago.

It doesn't seem to matter who is making firearms nowadays as every (or almost every) mfg is doing a hit and miss on quality out the door. They all need to step up!
Down here in the Rio Grande Valley(particularly Harlingen and McAllen/Pharr) I've seen quality used firearms for decent prices. I picked up a nice used Beretta APX for $350 out the door and it came with a 21 round magazine. I saw a Walther compact, can't remember what model, for $425. It came with an extended magazine.

Because of the past ammo shortages there are a lot of used firearms out there that haven't been shot much. And they can sometimes be found for good prices.

In my humble opinion, there are too many good alternatives at $400-$600 to spend over $800 for a firearm, unless you want a specific model and you want it new. I've "been there and done that" when I had to have a Sig Sauer Revolution 1911(when I lived in the Dallas area) many years ago.
