sighting question

There's a lot of info out there, but I believe we have a lot of good knowledge on this forum. So here goes. I have an area to sight in just over 50 yards. I have a new Ruger 8500 model 5;56.I'm using Sig Sauer 77 grain ammo (my choice, no remarks please) If I sight in at 50 yards, what will the approximate drop of the bullet at 100 yards and 200 yards. I believe if we are talking about a center target shot. The drop would be nominal. For example, say a 12" target.I have heard the Marines are using something similar to this.

Using a scope?
Sight height above the bore centerline will make a difference.
Weather conditions and altitude above sea level will also make small changes.

I use this online ballistic calculator-
SIG 5.56 77 gr 50 yard zero

Using the SIG 77gr 5.56 ammo at 2750 fps, ballistic coefficient of 0.362 with a scope mounted 1.5" over the bore centerline.

A 50 yard zero will be about 1/4" high at 100 yards.
it will be about 0.90 low at 150 yards.
it will be about 3.35" low at 200 yards

A 150 yard zero would be:
About 0.30" high at 50 yards (your sight in distance)
0.83" high at 100 yards
0.00" at 150 yards
2.32" low at 200 yards.

for my 308 s i use a laser in the breach and set across the street in neighbors driveway, and sighted in 50 yards as dead center on the scope, late at night . so i can see the red line really well

i try to stay within 50 to 100 yards, for a "target, hog, etc" so if its close to 100 i dial up a click and it works well
the article up there is pretty darn good

my input is use a laser bore sight, with rifle firmly gripped in mount holder , to avoid wasting ammo and then you get to range and tweak it once your body is added to the equation.

At 100 yards you'll be a little high at 200 you'll be back on. Theoretically.

Bullet won't start dropping until 200 yards.

Most Excellent! Thanks so much. Copied this for range day.
