Smyth Busters: Dropping a 1911 Slide on an Empty Chamber

I like these guys, I’ve tried to watch everything they come out with, they are calm and informative. That being said I avoid dropping the slide on all my guns when they have an empty chamber.
I like there comment about reading the owners manual, it’s obvious in many threads when new gun owners ask questions that they would know if they read the owners manual.

Have you checked of Larry Potterfield's videos? Larry is an amazing gunsmith and also the CEO of Midway USA.

I've watched a ton of his videos of some amazing work being done to old and modern firearms.

Yes I have and I agree he’s very good at what he does. He’s got a good eye although I admit you’d have to blind for not seeing what he pointed out on that rifle redo. I spent 20 years perfecting my stock building expertise and none of what he pointed out would have been acceptable with me.

Agreed. Likeable guys. Reading the owners manuals is generally 1st thing done.
And, if available, will read the owners manual before possible purchase as well to see recommendations and other info. Can save a lot of headaches and questions.

I trust your expertise on this topic as I'm just a spectator to the world of custom gunsmithing.

I can definitely know what you mean about seeing the trade on a different level from your experience because I've been involved in high end construction for many years and I'll see things occasionally that some people thinks looks top quality and the only thing I see is subpar workmanship.

The last time I was at the outdoor range LGS I frequent they had a used Mossberg Patriot Rifle built around the time I worked for them and wanted to ask if I could remove the butt pad to see if my signature was there as I signed over a hundred when I was making their stocks.
That's pretty cool!

If I pickup a Mossberg Patriot I'll be sure to look for the goose foot prints....😜

No seriously that is pretty awesome!

Exactly. When I owned and operated my own home improvement business back in the 90’s I felt bad when going into customers homes and they showed me what they had done so far and it was so bad, I remember one instance a home owner showed me new crown moldings he had installed and all the corners were filled with putty to cover the bad cutting of the angles. When I pointed it out he was very upset as he paid big money to have it done.

Never know sometimes? Could've made a few smiles and would've likely made a better day for you and them too seeing something you helped construct by a few words.
