The idea behind the drill is to quickly and accurately acquire and engage a target. Slow is slow. To be faster, you have to be more efficient and train snap shooting a shotgun from the ground up.

In my younger days, pheasant hunting with a friend in the cornfield on his farm made me pretty good at this. He and his wife retired from their jobs, sold it, and moved away. The new owner razed the cornfield so there are no birds anymore, just a big lawn. My club has an excellent trap range so I enjoy the sporting clays now in my senior years. Both trap and skeet are excellent training to achieve the speed and technique mentioned in the article. Only difference is that pheasant will sometimes let you walk by if they have concealment and go up in a direction you're not facing, requiring you to turn swiftly and safely to make the shot. Thanks for the post Talyn!

I always hunted over Pointers or Brittanys.
