Spetsnaz to go to 308 battle rifles

Looks very similar to HK 417. Interesting that spec ops are now returning to 30 cal heavier rifles and moving away from 5.56/5.45 rifles

They aren’t.

If you read the article, this isn’t standard issue; it’s a sniper/precision rifle, designed more for support.

Pros I’ve talked to are not big fans of .308 rifles; they’re heavy, the ammo is heavy, and since the pros can place their rounds on target, aren’t any more effective than .22 caliber (5.45/5.56) in most situations where they are using them.

A guy I know who’s with the Teams absolutely hated the SCAR Heavy for those exact reasons.

Considering how much physically bigger the current generations are compared to the WW2 generation I seem to have forgotten how many of our ancestors complained about how heavy a M1 Garand weighed 9.5 lbs. empty & 11.6 lbs. loaded.

For example, the new 6.8x51 M-7 weighs ~8.4 labs unloaded, 9.8 lbs. w/suppressor, and 12 lbs. with optics and loaded.

Perhaps push-ups have been dropped from PT?

WW2 soldiers weren’t wearing 30 pounds of armor.

Something that’s easy to forget.

Granted troopers are loaded down, but with a loaded M4A1 with a Comp M4 weighing 8.3 lbs., and being out-ranged like they were in Afghanistan then if someone can't handle less than the weight of a 1/2 gal of milk, then someone needs more push-ups and protein shakes.

To quote my buddy’s son on the teams—

“Ounces equal pounds, and pounds equal pain”.

I’m willing to bet he could push-up you into the ground…so I’ll take his word on the subject, as he goes there and does that.

Just my .02.

Lets not get personal now.

When I was a kid on wildland fire crews our standard gear load-out weighed 30-40 lbs depending on what tool (pulaski or shovel) and more when you strapped on a full "bladder bag" with 40 extra pounds of water when doing the job in mountainous country for all day shifts.

So, that and considering where I live I'm very familiar with "ounces equal pounds and pounds equal pain".

I have no doubt he could out push-up me now.

.308 is an effective round in combat.
Always has. Always will be.

The lighter the gear, the more they pile on.
5.56 or .308
Troops weight is prob about the same. They just fill their rucks with more crap. Then shed it, then pile it back in when they find the still need what they pulled out
