First of all this is my opinion only, I used to be a big sports fan, loved NASCAR, Baseball, Football, now I have given up one of my pastimes, first on NASCAR, the fake Bubba Wallace incident, now I don’t watch racing, pro football now wants to have 2 anthems, baseball moved the all star game due to fake information on Georgia’s new voting law, so no more baseball here, now I was eager to watch some of the Olympics, now they to have gone off the deep end, the USA team in my opinion are not representing the US, there on there own agenda to push there political views. What happened to our sports, used to be you went to a ballgame or see racing and escape what’s going on in the world, now it’s all political, I guess the times have really changed like my parents said it would, guess they were right.

Yah, have about same thoughts on most organized pro sports.
Love watching little league events though. Kids and their efforts are great to watch.
Olympics with the latest bikini bottom /shorts for women thing or fining team garbage was another straw on proverbial camels broken back. Am thinking Olympic committee needs to revamp their likely thoughts and rule books.

Anni, u hit in something… And lemme say something, too.
( I think I hear the groans )

Karl Marx once said “religion is the opiate of the masses “ and he was probably at least partially correct…
Today he might say the sports-music-media entertainment complex is our ‘opiate’.

I rarely watch TV. I do still love football but it’s succumbing to mindless, illogical social trends in a big way. I guess it’s because it truly is an opiate. It produces nothing useful and in fact is harmful in a macro sort of way (why are all us fans helping them get rich ?!? If we weren’t watching, they’d make about what everyone else make, a’la the average pro baseball or football player did up until the mid-1960s).
Nascar? Two hours of left turns? Pfft..
Ain’t interested. I can drive down to Charlotte, ride around two hours and see more traffic excitement….

It seems now in this country most sports are controlled by the invisible hand. It's a hand that spurs on national division, and has turned America into the land of the offended. It seems to me that many leagues are rewarding players more for their political activism than their skills on the field. I'd rather find a decent old movie on cable than watch over-paid players discredit the American values that have made them prosper. It appears most of us share Anni's opinion.

Agree with these posts.

Basically I'm done with major sports (NFL, MLB & NBA) except for the NHL, which hasn't been contaminated yet. Never been a NASCAR fan (I prefer F1, IMSA, WEP etc. road racing where they actually turn the wheel to other direction) since the old days before they neutered the cars, and now the fake noose incident.

Once the kneeling & now dual national anthems those sports will be ignored. But this is another way the left is doing to tear the social fabric of the USA apart.

Also, those so-called celebrity low-lifes like J. Cena that bend over and cry like baby's to gain favor with the CCP can go pound sand.

The only sport left worth watching is Hockey. The NHL has made a few PC type official statements, but hasn't quite crossed that line for me just yet. Every other sport has pandered or bowed down in some way shape or form to a point of no return for me. There is almost nowhere to escape from the political hellfire that has engulfed our lives, and this country. The rest of these overpaid whiny little bitches can go take a long walk off a short pier. Nobody cares what you think, just play your sport and collect your check, and learn how to be grateful to the country that allows you to live a handsome life off of playing a game. Rant is done. thanks for listening.

…no rant at all, deuce. You are saying what a lot of people - from all walks of life - are thinking…

I agree with what everyone else here has said. It’s hard to watch any of these leagues anymore. However, I am a little conflicted and I quoted Talyn’s post for a reason. Sports are part of American culture. They are competitive, they have winners and losers. Everything is not about equity. Doesn’t matter who you are, if you are the best, you will play. These are all things that the left/Marxists HATE. I wouldn’t doubt that pushing Americans to abandon sports is a strategy to change the fabric of America. So, do we abandon sports and let a piece of America die? Do we abandon sports and have another piece of competition and being the best you can be and get rewarded for it die? Should we abandon sports and have one of the biggest things that unite us all die? I HATE what these idiots are doing. But I wonder about the cost to America of abandoning sports and letting them die off…

Then let it die!

I am in agreement with the masses here posted. Not interested when it went political and contrived .

several prominent American (and foreign) sports figures that are very patriotic stated recently that there are thousands of foreign athletes, race car drivers and the like who would kill to be an American and play sports in the USA and represent the flag proudly

The women's soccer team has merely boycotted goal scoring until racism is eradicated. :)
I got into watching them circa 2009-10 when stationed at Ft Leonard Wood MO. Guess it was the World’s Cup… Meghan Rapinoe, Abby Wambach, Katie Beuhler, and goalkeeper Hope Whatever, et.al…they were terrific, much more interesting than mens soccer. Beat up on some South American team (I think it was) and then lost to the Jap women’s team.
Most seem to be activists now :( .
Went from professional sports to professional malcontents, with a big mixed dose of irrationality and goofiness thrown in. Sad.

Ft. Leonard Wood is cool though. Some of the most beautiful ground in the country right around there.

My niece is in her senior year at SIUE where she got a 5 year soccer scholarship. She has been the leading scorer since her first year. She was at one point in the top ten in the country. She plays semi-pro in the off season. She's studying forensic science and interning for the FBI right now. I played soccer from 5 years old through high school and both my sister's daughter's always played so I've been following it since "Soccer Made in Germany" was on the air.

I have no love for activist sports figures though.

All the money now currently spent on professional sports and now college sports since it’s been decided they need not only a free education but to be paid should go to high school and little league sports and the rest should go to educating our youth. Stop paying those grown ass cry baby men millions and make them work at McDonald’s for minimum wage.

Excellent thread @Annihilator
