"PRODIGY PROBLEMS" SPRINGFIELD ARMORY CUSTOMER SERVICE GETS 5 STARS

many of you are familiar with the AOS plate issues and the HAMMER FOLLOW issues I have been having with my 5" Prodigy. (Posted on other thread).
After sending gun back for second time, not only is SA sending me a BRAND NEW pistol, they asked if I would be interested in a comped model. Of course I said yes.
I should have my new Prodigy 5" comp in 2 to 3 weeks.
In anticipation of the new arrival I purchased a Vortex Defender XL and required goodies to make it whole.

Didn’t see your post on the hammer following, but on any 1911, if you drop the slide on an empty chamber, it can cause this issue to occur, it’s not a good thing to do it. This will cause the hammer/sear engagement to wear prematurely, hence the following hammer issue

Appreciate the input, I am very respectful to the design of JMB's 1911. I never drop the slide or hammer on an empty chamber, There was a problem with internals observed and acknowledged by their tech leading them to replace weapon. You and I know and follow correct battery of arms, young folks not so much.

Yea, I wasn't referring you did this, I was just saying, I know lots of guys who do this also I know a few sheriff deputies that used to put a round in chamber and then drop the slide, big no no on a 1911, but some think when they put a badge on, they know everything, not all, but I know a few that has this mindset

I've dealt with Springfield's customer service three times.
Once, a 1911 actually broke. They had the gun repaired and back to me in 8 days.
The other two times were for little things like a lost screw. Received the items in the mail in less than a week at no charge.
Springfield's CS is top notch. Best in the industry. Its just one of the reasons I like their guns so much. (y)

Received the Brand new 5" Prodigy comp today. Cleaned and lubed, installed dot and magwell. Will get to range in the next day or so. I will post range results when I have them.

New Prodigy comp shot beautifully yesterday afternoon. 200 rounds of 124g fmj without a hitch. No pics due to a lot of that was basic shake down, zero RDS etc...
I went to range this morning for my usual Staccato session with XL but brought the Prodigy along for a few more Break in rounds. 125 more rounds through Prodigy, gun is very accurate and a great shooter. Never had a port / comp gun before, it is a different but very pleasant shoot.
I left the range very satisfied, got home and then I began to clean Prodigy. It was then that I noticed the slightest movement where the dovetail of plate mates with the slide.
The guns is awesome and I plan on keeping it, but I cannot be the only one constantly having this issue with the
AOS plate.

SA's RMA report on previous Prodigy that they replaced with this one said hammer follow issue was caused by grip screws being backed out so far that it allowed sear spring to disengage causing hammer follow issue. Also said I need to check plate screw tightness more often. I own $8000.00 worth of 1911's / 2011's I would notice a little thing like a grip separating from frame. Lol

If they are suggesting that I remove Dot every 200 rounds to see if plate screws are tight they crazy. I have over 3000 round thru Staccato in a little over a month and the plate is like it was welded to slide.

I am standing by my original praise of SA customer service, They have gone above and beyond the norm to resolve this situation.
This is an obvious flaw in the AOS design. I see that Dawson Precision offers a plate but it still uses the original screws supplied with AOS. Not much faith in that deal for $129.00.

. I hate it because this gun is the CAT'S MEOW if the damn plate would stay put.

Any input is much appreciated. PEACE

Hey SL66 as you know I had problems with the AOS plate on my 1911 AOS pistol. I got screws from Trijicon to mount their SRO on the AOS plate. Turns out the screws were several thousands too long were bottoming out before reaching the correct torque value. I then used 6-32 X 3/8" added loctite and torqued them to 15 inch pounds. Went to the range this past Tuesday shot a little over a hundred rounds screws stayed tight. Can't say for sure but maybe this will work for you on the Prodigy.

Referring to the plate to slide screws think they 7-40's don't remember their length but pretty short. Think SA suggested 20-22 inch pounds on those. I went to about 30 inch pounds and after around 300 rounds they're still tight.

Appreciate the Input, I pulled extractor and screw was protruding a tiny bit in to channel. No scar markings on extractor. I am not giving up on pistol, it is a Bad Mofo for sure.
