Springfield Armory Prodigy 1911DS

I am trying to remove rear site plate from my 1911 Prodigy 5" to attach a DragonFly optic and when I remove the 2 screws at the rear plate, the plate will not come off. Any ideas as to what can be done?

Most of us can’t keep the screws tight and the plate wants to take itself off. It should come right off, but there could be some oil it gunk under it sealing it down. I’d wrap a piece of tape round a small screwdriver and try and pry it off. I don’t remember if the holes for the red dot screws go all the way through the slide. If they do you could try pushing up from the underside of the slide.

I’d just tap the sides & top of the plate a few times with the handle of a screwdriver…it’s how you get the side plate off of a S&W revolver, and that sits in snug.

I would leave any prying as a final option…because you almost certainly will mar it.

Agreed!

A polymer headed hammer can make short work of stuck parts without permanent damage.
