Springfield Competition Pistol - Options?

Jedi54

Operator
Question for everyone out there: if you were getting a Springfield Armory pistol today to train / shoot competitions with (USPSA / Steel Challenge / IDPA), what would you get?

with Springfield eliminating the majority of the XDM line in 9mm, I feel like there's a void here.
The Prodigy comes to mind but what about striker fired?

Echelon- ?
to me that seems more of a duty / self defense pistol

Mod 3? - still unproven

xdm 4.5 osp - ?

Just wanted to get everyone's thoughts on this.
and 2nd thought: do you think Springfield will release something in this space in the near future? an XDM 5.25 that is optics ready would be on my wishlist but I don't know if SA has an appetite for such a pistol.

If you could find an XDM 5.25 that was/is a great platform for competition.

The Prodigy would be a good route if you wanted to go the 2011 route for sure. There is a healthy 2011 competition aftermarket that you can do anything you want to it including the "old school" mounting the optic on the frame to cantilever over the slide. Dude with the optic not moving and slide moving independently is the nuts.

The Echelon, don't over look that so quick, the benefit over the XDM is the lower optic mounting situation it does make a difference. Now that there are aftermarket frames with a third company about to also release one you are getting more options. There are aftermarket maxwells, compensators and triggers that will let you build the gun to your taste.

Mod3, I don't know if you could count a "refresh" as a new pistol, Springfield and HS Produkt have been building these for 24 years now.My only concern would be the optic height over slide, and I hate to say the magazine capacity when compared to the XDM or Prodigy. In competition you want every round possible in each mag.

James, appreciate you chiming in.
I have an XDM 5.25 that I shot in USPSA Limited recently that I would love to mount a red dot but obviously that's proving problematic. AFAIK, neither PRP or Springer are doing optic cuts for that pistol.

My Echelon has an RMR HD and I love that combo, just don't know if that's a good choice to compete with.

hence my dilemma and question to you all.

Here is one way to look at it, how good are you. Like are you ready to compete with Rob Leatham, or are you in the top 10% of your local matches, or I am just getting started but want to be the best I can be?

Depending on your answer you may want to buy a a supercar but can you fully drive it? Nothing wrong spending 2k on a gun and all of the stuff to go with it. But you have people like Dave Sevigny who competes and wins national matches with a relatively stock Glock. Would the money be better spent on 10k rounds of 9mm, a bunch of dry fire practice and every weekend trying to move you up the charts?

Now if you have the budget trust me I am with you and will absolutely jump the gun per se and buy something eventually training into it if that makes sense. But I also competed for years with an XD-9 and got to the point I needed something more, I maxed out the potential with the gun.

That 5.25 Springer precision or Powder river I thought had an adaptor?

If I were starting fresh I think the prodigy would be my choice, the mag capacity, the optics choice and the aftermarket support can't be beat.

Like as said, the prodigy would be very good, years ago my club had bowling pin matches and at times steel matches, I used a Springfield Loaded black stainless like this pic, but I love the .45, so I will throw my 2 cents in and say one of the optic ready, if you want to use a optic that is, Emissary AOS 1911’s in .45, but this is just me, a prodigy is on my list in the future
