Springfield Garrison 1911 Review: Best 1911 For the Money?

The lack of forward serrations is a feature not a bug. Singular color is also a plus. No rail is a plus. One sided safety is also a plus for this right hander. Seriously, this gun has all of the features I like and none of the non-essentials for me.
I can see using this as is, rather than buying a less expensive gun and spending money on upgrades.

Review of the Springfield Garrison 1911, notice the reviewer noted the slide over hang and he contacted Springfield about it and told them there more concerned about slide to barrel fit then the slight overhang, so if any one here has this issue with there gun, its nothing to be concerned about, just cosmetic.

None of my SA 1911's (mid-2000's and older) have any overhang. I guess standards have changed.

My blued 9mm and stainless .45 did not exhibit the overhang. Both are great shooters. Other than the premature wear on the 9mm bluing and slide to frame tolerances being way to tight initially on the 9mm (both of which I've documented here in the past), I like the Garrison. A bit more quality control would go along way to fix out of the box annoyances.

I think my Ronin Commander offers more of what most 1911 enthusiasts would expect from Springfield though.

My suggestions for Springfield would be to add factory checkering to the front strap and offer a black Cerakote finish instead of the bluing on the Garrison and Ronin. Otherwise, there are plenty of top notch 1911 gunsmiths in northern AZ to make me happy.

Agree very strongly, but not completely. I could live just fine with the Garrison, but I like the Mil-Spec even more. I don't care for the Novak sights, Commander hammer, duck-butt grip safety, and 3-hole lint-gathering trigger. I experimented with all these "improvements" back in the '70s and '80s and decided I didn't need them, so I've made it a point ever since to do without them.

It's fun to outshoot some newbie or mall ninja and his "modernized" 1911 with my homebuilt POS 1911 (essentially, a Mil-Spec), which looks like a completely stock GI 1911 except for the high fixed sights. ;)

my loaded has front frame serrations grip spot. i think they are a waste.
all my other 191s have only the rear serrations on the slide.

not sure why the front one, maybe somebody grabs it there to be fancy to rack slide??
i like the loaded edition very much, its smooth
i like the garrison model as well, price is good to its my next choice. i will have all the models before toooo long

none of my 1911's have any over hang as well, not even my purchase (mid-2023) of the new Remington R1S, which price wise, was far less then all my other 1911's at about $750

if SA is so concerned over faster production to meet demands, how's about not even advertising any potential new model, until the warehouse are chock full of them, and built with no issues?

i had on order a SS Garrison, AND Colt Competition..they both came in the same day. after reading the issues the Garrisons were having, it was a very easy decision for me to just buy the Colt.

i ain't regretted not buying then, or even up to now, a Garrison
