Springfield Prodigy Magazine Issue

MartyJ

Alpha
I have a (Duty Carry) Prodigy and Carry 3, 20 round extended magazines. At my latest trip to the range, I emptied each Magazine, however at the completion of firing each Magazine, the slide did not lock back. These were mags bought from Springfield in addition too the 2 with my weapon. (1-17 and 1-20 Rd). These 2 magazines worked without incident. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum from Central Texas.

I've not had that issue with mine and I use the Springfield mags exclusively. However, I could see the slide not going far back enough to lock if the gun was really dirty. If I have 400 ish + rounds through it without cleaning, the slide starts to slow down considerably and may not go far enough back to lock. Try giving it a good cleaning before the next range trip and then try those same 3 mags that were having the issue.

It may not be the mags but your grip. If you take a real high grip your thumb may interfere with the slide lock/release. Happens to me with walther pdp’s.
insert an empy mag and pull the slide back. does it lock back each time with each mag? If so, it may be your grip on the gun.

Edit- does it only happen with the extended mags?

I used the mag I carry in weapon. Worked great. All rounds fired and last round cycle completed, slide locked back. Changed to my mags I carry on belt (and we're separate order) and all cycled ammo perfect except after last round was fired, slide remained forward not locked. All 3 mags. Went back to mag I carry in weapon...Perfect all rounds fired, cycle and after last round, slide locks back. Puzzling. Mags aren't dirty, weapon clean. Thank you for weighing in. Guess I'm heading to GS and see what Springfield says. Need my mags for duty so sending back without another on hand is no bueno.

Wow. That is weird. Send them back.

If you insert the empty mag (of the 3 in question) into the gun with the slide forward then pull the slide back will it lock?

I just picked up two new 17 rounders and haven’t had any problem. I would check the feed lips and/or the follower as this seems to a a mag induced issue. Compare a new and old mag with the slide off. Does the follower of the new mags not push up as far as the others when empty. You could also disassemble an old and new mag and see if the springs are different. Maybe swap the spring and follower between the two mags and see if you have the same issue with an old mag with new spring and follower.

Will do. Thank you

welcome. One thing which may have been suggested already is to use fake/practice ammo in the first mags and then the secondary mags to see if they load the same. Put a couple in each mag, action the slide and watch to see if everything goes properly.

Thanks. Have loaded and reloaded same ammo. 1 Magazine functions perfect at full capacity and at multiple increases and decreased capacity. The other 3 function however when the last round is fired, slide does not remain locked at rear. Must of went through 100 rounds and nothing improved with those 3 mags. Magazine functions fine except the aforementioned problem.
