Squib loads will get you

I love 45ACP and enjoy reloading. I have owned the S/A XDS for five years now and put thousands of factory and reloads down range during that time without a single failure or malfunction. On Jun 20, 2020 a squib load snook up on me and presented me evidence of the great engineering and manufacturing genius of Springfield Armory. The squib load, or I should say the one that followed it, took my XDS out for sure. The results, one destroyed weapon but no injuries. Keep your head on a swivel at the range, things can happen fast. This could have been catastrophic, but the results were much better than one could anticipate. Photos attached

Was it factory ammo?

If it was, Springfield will likely fix it...even if it wasn’t, they’ll still likely do what they can for a nominal fee...a buddy detonated his Glock with a reload (Can’t recall exactly what it was—OOB, maybe?) and ended up just having to buy a new frame...under $100.

Good point, I am going to reach out to S/A to determine if the damage is too great, but a solid option.

Thanks for sharing. Curious on ammo, if factory would like a lot # and manufacture.

It was not factory ammo, this was a disaster of my own making. Just glad the weapon was well engineered and manufactured to cancel out some mistakes people make, including me. I did not pick up on the squib load and thought the following shot just did not load correctly. A quick tap and the breech locked and the disaster happened. Speed drills can sometimes desensitize you to squibs and misfires.
