Tank Guns – The Bulge

I have seen an Abrams Tank fire sabot round hit a T-72 Iraqi Tank on the battlefield during the Gulf War and the T-72 exploded blowing off the turret into the air about 50 feet and when it hit the ground you could hear it and feel it and it was about 500 yards away. That T 72 burned like a dumpster on fire and small crispy body parts littered the area surrounding the Burning T-72. The smell of the burnt flesh made me puke!

I would not want to be on the receiving end of an Abrams Tank

Not much is left of the T-72 Tank crew we got detailed to scrap up of whats was left and buried it in a mass grave.

Nice article. Learned something new I thought it was some sort of shock absorber for the barrel and to help from shacking the tank backwards as much.

Informative video 👍. If I hadn't watched the video first, I was gonna call my youngest brother for the answer, as he was an Abrams tanker in the Army Reserve (many, many yrs ago). :)

I served in self-propelled artillery and the main cannon required a bore evacuator for the same reason. During Desert Storm my unit had M1 Abrams and M2 Bradley tuck inside our perimeter and engaged elements of the Iraqi Republican Guard. They destroyed tank-after-tank during this armored battle that lasted several hours. One of the Bradley's was just 50 feet away firing the 25mm Bushmaster main gun. It was a sight to behold the awesome firepower of these weapons, and sobering to see so many deaths on the other side. The Republican Guard forces that we encountered simply would not surrender.

I was sad to see most of his Republican Guard were Coptic Christians and not Muslims ! Iraq used them as cannon fodder and that was sad.🙏🙏

Most of the prisoners were wearing a cross hidden on their person .He used them as sheep for the slaughted the B52 Strikes killed most of the Infantry that was starving I am glad they hung that SOB !
Our unit had a MI team that blasted a surrender notice before each artillery strike giving the enemy an opportunity to surrender, but none accepted.

On my first tour I saw quite a few Iraqi tanks that had their turrets separated from their chassis. Had been a medic in a M1 Abrams Battalion and had a chance to load it and even fire a couple rounds before they were taken away. They were, and especially upgraded, are a Beast! Felt rather comfortable in my M113 APC because if we were sent when we had the Abrams only a special type of fool would waste a shot on an APC with all those death dealers around.
On a side note, I'm also not a plane man but do have a fondness for the A-10, C-130 and AC-130. The A-10 has a real appetite for armor. Saw some vehicles that didn't have pleasant encounters with one.
