Taurus Got Me Again (TX22 Slide Cracked)

I have had several issues with Taurus products in the past, but I was interested enough in the TX22 that I went ahead and took a chance on it. For the last 18 months I have raved about this gun being the most reliable rimfire pistol I have ever owned. The TX22 has seen more action than I initially planned due to the price and availability of 9mm ammo since COVID hit, and I have never had any issues that I could not attribute to cheap bulk ammo.

I fired my 1,000th round during today's range session. When I was putting the gun away, I noticed that the slide had cracked in the area where the recoil spring is housed. I have never had a slide crack on any of my guns. How on Earth did Taurus develop a slide that couldn't stand up to .22 LR ammo? I'm calling Taurus tomorrow, but I am worried because Taurus customer service doesn't have a better reputation than their pistols. I really want to support companies that offer affordable firearms, but not if the guns don't work. I think it's about time I get over my addiction to budget guns and start saving up for quality products.

Sorry to hear this has happened to you. Unfortunately, this is really common with the standard TX22 and Taurus is well aware of it. In fact they sell the Lakeline Recoil Spring on their site to replace the Taurus spring. The problem is that the aluminum at the front of the slide is so thin and the recoil spring has a hard edge at the end of it that batters the slide. I replaced the recoil spring on my standard TX22 almost immediately and haven’t had the issue. Once Taurus warranties your slide order the recoil spring with the Delron washer on the end of it. https://lakelinellc.com/shop/lakeline-recoil-assembly-for-taurus-tx22/

Or, invest in the TX22 Competition Upper, it has a redesigned slide that doesn’t have this issue. I just hit 3,500 rounds on my Competition today.

Thanks for the excellent advice. I've had to send several guns back to Taurus over the years (I really should've learned my lesson). I'm wondering if they are going to pull their usual, "If it's been over 1 year since the gun was purchased the customer must pay shipping", policy. I wouldn't mind if it were some sort of normal wear-and-tear issue, but I think Taurus should cover the cost when it involves a catastrophic failure (especially if its a known problem).

Guess I need to order a spring

I bought the TX22 because I love my plinking .22's and liked the 16-round capacity of the TX22 magazines. If any of you have connections at Springfield, please let them know that I would immediately buy one if they were to produce an XD in .22 LR with a 15+ round magazine. At this point, I'd probably buy two. I have faith that a Springfield wouldn't self-destruct in my hands after 1000 rounds.

Good advice!

I'm going to buy either the Lakeline or Tandomkross TX22 spring today.

At first I wanted one when it first came out. After I thought about it because of all the problems I saw with Taurus products when I worked at LGS.
Side note: Love your Avitar -- I'm a former Eagle Keeper (Kadena, C & D models).

Current TX owner, it stays in the safe -- can't use an entire magazine without it stove-piping or other FTF.
