Texas Governor Greg Abbott Invokes Invasion Clause In US And Texas Constitutions

Texas Governor Greg Abbott earlier this week invoked both of these invasion clauses in response to the federal government’s lack of action to secure the US-Mexico Border.

Abbott is saying, if the federal government will not deal with the border crisis, Texas will take over with authority granted in the Consitution to defend itself with everything in its power to do so.

Frankly, I cannot understand ANYONE feeling there's no issue, no problem with thousands upon thousands of unknown, unvetted individuals flooding into this country every day. We've yet to meet, let alone reap, the whirlwind.

i like that he did this. however, what is the end result? if texas police arrest an illegal person, that person is turned over to ICE and ICE most likely will not deport
unless we start deporting as part of the invasion clause, nothing will change.
he wont keep them in jail for long

IMO if he really wants to force a showdown of feds vs states.
he should immediately, arrest, detain etc all CBP, ICE and other federal LEOS at the border that allow the people to remain once they cross illegally.
then any migrants caught captured etc, shall not be allowed to pass on TEXAS property to get to a point of exit that feds use to fly or bus or drive illegals out of the state or anywhere within the state.

surround all cbo, ice fed holding areas and do not allow anyone that is not a us citizen to pass, not matter what the mode of conveyance used.
if it gets sticky, dont let the fed officers out of the same quarantine zones
deploy steam cannons along all entry points that are not legal ports of entry.. spray the river with steam...they will get the message real fast.

arrest any fed person cutting barbed wire or any other barriers

Some time early next year we will be moving to Texas, I talked with my lady last night telling her i’m worried about the current immigration situation.
She understands my concern however being Mexican she doesn’t see it as a major problem, not like do.
We shall see how long I stay in that state.

Hey @KillerFord1977 do you have land big enough for a camper for a short stay?

The Governor no sooner signed the bill when liberal "immigrant rights" groups and the American Criminal Liberties Union are filing civil suits. Their argument...wait for it...The TX state law "violates the U.S. Constitution because Congress has given the federal government sole authority over immigration enforcement."

Darn, if only obiden and mayorkas would follow the US Constitution and enforce the law. To bad SCOTUS will never hold the US executive branch in contempt for not enforcing federal law. It's that pesky separation of powers conundrum.

That's some rich irony. So you're going to sue the state of Texas for over-stepping its authority, but not sure the federal government for not exercising its authority?

I'm having a real hard time with the inattention the current administration is giving the border crisis. Yes. It is a f***ing crisis. There are still people who are trying to enter the US to be with loved ones, and they're doing it the RIGHT WAY (which, btw, costs thousands of dollars depending on the applicant's home country and the visa applied for). I had to wait almost two years to join my husband AFTER we were married. And the damn government dug deep on both of us...they know more about me than I do.

Sorry, I digress. I applaud Gov. Abbott's action on this ongoing circus, and I just wish to h**l that other border states would join ranks with Texas. Maybe it's exhaustion talking, but I'm so darn tired of the inaction. Let's just stand around and wring our hands, shall we? Sh*t's gonna get real. Sooner than we think.

I'm in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. I currently live about 30 miles from the border but will be moving closer in the next 5 to 6 months.

Most of the illegal aliens who cross over are from just west of Rio Grande City west along the Rio Grande River.

The Rio Grande Valley is a relatively inexpensive and safe place to live that's why a lot of retirees like me live down here (plus I grew up down here, moved away for almost 40 years and then moved back).

I applaud governor Abbott for signing the bill allowing law enforcement to arrest/apprehend illegal aliens. Most of the people I know in the Rio Grande Valley don't like illegal aliens because the smugglers (coyotes) who bring them over are ruthless.

The rural parts of Texas between San Antonio and Laredo/Eagle Pass can be dangerous at night because of smugglers and illegal aliens. Border Patrol, Sheriff's Departments, local police, and DPS (Department of Public Safety aka Texas State Troopers) do a heck of a job.

Eagle pass is one of our possible destinations, I worked there for two years and that’s where my lady and I met.
I’ve seen the news reports about the immigration situation in EP very worried to say the least.
