The .357 Magnum: Most Versatile Handgun Round Ever.

One of my biggest regrets is getting rid of a Colt Peacemaker in .357 back I had back in the ‘80s. Traded it for a lever action 30-30 to hunt with. Never should have done that. I almost got a S&W 360pd once, but it was back ordered. Waited about 6 months before I gave up and got my money back. I don’t have as many guns as some of you have, but I’ve got .380, 9mm, .45, .38 revolver and a few .22s in handguns. I would still welcome a .357 revolver at some point.

I believe this was what my Peacemaker looked like. May have had a slightly different barrel length, but this is what I remember. Tells my age when this was around 35 years ago. Lol...

357 MAG IS A GREAT ROUND.

But with all the new models comin out in 10mm, I'd say that 10 has the edge.

Similar ballistics, more firearms, many with higher capacity.
Glock 20, 29 & 40, 1911's, CMMG BANSHEE and the list goes on.

Flame on! :giggle:

Eh; I’ve always considered 10mm a bit overrated; in an auto, a .45 Super will crush it, and with similar capacity in similar platforms.

45 super is not nearly as prolific in its availability in everyday America. I can't remember the last time I saw 45 super on the shelves of any gun store.
With the increase in popularity of the 10mm, it is widely available. AND AFFORDABLE.

You don’t see full-power 10mm on shelves, though; just the watered-down big ammo brands.

The same sources that have it (DoubleTap, Buffalo Bore, Underwood) also have .45 Super.

I can't recommend the Smith and Wesson 686 highly enough. It's accurate and like all Smith's it just feels right in my hand. If you can find one, get it. I'd love a Python but it's mostly because it looks nice. I have a hard time believing it would shoot better than the S&W.

The Sig stuff is pretty peppy especially for the price. 180 at 1250fps, a couple hundred FPS faster than the normal Federal or Winchester stuff. Maybe not full power but it moves quick.

MagTech is pretty common "range" fodder and its rated at 1250' p/sec. My local generic store, Bi-Mart, has some stout PD.
There is definitely more 10mm available in the general market than 45 super.

I personally doubt the MagTech numbers. Using both Sig and MagTech at the range on the same day in the same pistol, the Sig felt more stout. MagTech is just banger ammo; I'd be pretty surprised if they put out potent 10mm. I could certainly be wrong, though. I've never fired their stuff through a chrono.

.45 Super sounds fun, I'll have to look into it. Maybe it'll be a worthwhile addition to the collection.
