The 5 Best Low Recoil Shotguns Ever Made

A newer, April 28th 2021, fairly short interesting article about some lower recoil shotguns and ammo. Am sure there's a few more out there. Seems to be some good basic info to start with and think about when deciding on lower recoiling SG's. At least one is discontinued so may need to find a pre used model.

Those longer barrels make a difference in an auto! Try a pump action!

For softer recoil, don't rule out going to 20 ga. I shot Mas Ayoob's LaRocca-modified 1100 in 20 ga and was EXTREMELY impressed--it could spit out death & destruction better than anything I've ever fired (out to 35 yards or so, of course). I compared the recoil to shooting a Garand or M1A and others I've said that to have agreed with me. I should have put one on the recent "Bucket List" thread, as I want one. Haven't yet run across a nice used 20 ga 1100 in my price range, though. Maybe someday.

Agreed, is nice option to have a lesser gauge lower recoiling shotgun hanging around. Ammo for them seems to missing on shelves around here with the exception of 12ga. many times. Maybe like many calibers of firearm ammo seems to rare with exception of 9mm, 45ACP and AR ammo locally for now? 10mm and some 40 is trickling back now too. 45LC is still fairly rare online or off. Shotgun or other ammo being available locally can make a huge difference when deciding what firearm choices.

Fit is also an issue when it comes to recoil. My wife and I are competitive trap shooters. We shoot over 20k rounds a year. I was also a tactical shotgun instructor and hunter. I've spent a fair amount of time behind a shotgun.. If a shotgun does not fit you, it can beat a person up .

By fit, I mean :
Length of pull
Height of comb
Cast of stock
Stock pitch

Weight and balance of the weapon and ammo choice can help with perceived recoil as well.

I'm a big fan of the 20 Gauge. My home-defense shotgun in a Remington 870 Security model in 20 Ga. My wife, and the kids when they were younger, were all more comfortable firing the 20 Ga. than any of my 12 Ga. It already had an 18.5" barrel, and I put a Youth stock on it, which reduced the length by 2". It's very easy to move through the house with, and I feel confident that 6 + 1 rounds of #2 Buckshot should be enough to deter almost any threat.
