A buddy has a .243 AR, which—for this area—is a superb platform.

But 7-08 would also be a solid consideration.

Not mine. but one of my 7mm-08s is just like this. HS Precision doesn't make these anymore.

It shoots like a laser gun. My other is a limited edition M700.

Once upon a time you could get Fulton Armory to rebarrel either your Garand, or M1A in 7mm-08.
7mm-08 in an AR, not earth shattering....

A friend of mine is a 7-08 fan, so I built a 7-08 AR. I haven't tested it yet due to needing to finish handloading ammo for it. In his bolt gun he's shot several elk (not sure how far). I think it's Rem, but unsure of the model or age of it? I believe it's a 16"? The AR I built has a 22" 10 twist .750" gas block light weight profile w/agb. Might make changes to the stock and go carbine?

Most any cartridge in an AR isn't, but it's fun! Just like short mag cartridges in AR's aren't earth shattering.............it's just fun!

My buddy’s is a side charger w/carbon fiber barrel & magnesium rail…it’s fairly light, before optics (something Schmidt&Bender).

I do know that it’ll hit an egg @ 200yds, first time, every time, using his handloads.
