We sat down with one of the nation’s elite combat veterans, now a renowned tactical trainer, and asked him why he thinks the AR-15 is the best home-defense gun you can buy.

I am a Combat Infantry Veteran I belive the best close-quarters home defense weapon is a 12 gauge shotgun loaded with OO buckshot. But an early warning alarm with automatic motion lights & camera system with communications is a plus so is a well-trained guard dog and a family plan of action.

I could not agree more if a.22 is all you got that's better than nothing!

A 23-year-old Oklahoma man used a semi-automatic AR-15 rifle to shoot and kill three masked teenage intruders dressed in black who broke into his home Monday afternoon — an act authorities are investigating as self-defense.
Zach Peters, the homeowner's son, fatally shot an 18-year-old man and two boys ranging between 16 and 17 around 12:30 p.m. The trio allegedly forced their way into the residence through a back door and were killed after exchanging words with Peters, who fired multiple shots.”

Any firearm is the "best home defense gun" when the user is very familiar in its use, is using a firearm appropriate for area being defended, has practiced enough to make well-aimed shots, and knows the their own, and firearms, strengths and weaknesses.
