The Colt Delta Elite: a 1911 chambered in 10mm

I have one of them, too. It's a fantastic pistol. I'm a little wary of putting the Underwood and Buffalo Bore stuff through it based on reports I've read of the earlier versions breaking with full-power stuff. Aside from that, it's a seriously nice pistol.

Good to know @benstt, thanks. I haven't shot any hot ammo through any of my 1911 10mms, but have through my Glock MOS G40. The Glock seemed to handle the Buffalo Bore 220 Hard Cast fine enough, with a bit more kick than the "off the shelve" 10mm ammo.

Ok, grasshopper, in Glocks, your not supposed to shoot any lead bullets in them, I was told this when I went through the Glock armor course when I worked at my sheriff dept, also I thinks it’s in the manual…FYI

Nope, all I know is what was told during the Glock’s course, the instructor said no lead bullets in the Glock, I don’t know about the other 2 manufacturers, sorry.

Here is a link I found, it’s a combination of rifling, and the tenifer finish inside the barrel

Thanks Anni, good stuff. I’m always learning & appreciate your effort on providing this information.

You can order a barrel from Glock with traditional rifling-I ordered one for my son when he was stationed in Alaska so he could shoot hard cast bullets in it and he killed a bear with that pistol. I have a Sig P220-10 and it works wonders on wild hogs, but dang it is a heavy sonofagun to carry around all day.

The early ones—very first models—had issues because the frame wasn’t relieved. The issue has been dealt with since the late 1980’s/early 1990’s...

This is my first year Delta; no relief cut. Note the neoprene grips...later versions have checkered rubber wraparounds.

Have you heard anything like that about HKs?
So, on polygonal rifling and lead bullets...

Basic rule of thumb? It’s not an issue, as long as you really clean the barrel after you get done shooting lead, and before shooting jacketed..otherwise, if you have shot a lot (and I mean, like a case, or are running pure soft lead reloads and by the the hundreds), you can cause overpressure because of lead buildup in the corners of the poly, and the jacketed bullet trying to shove the lead out. But again, we’re talking about a LOT of lead bullets.

If you are shooting hard cast...it’s not as big of a deal, but still a good idea.

As far as Glock saying no lead—this is nothing but a CYA move on their part. I know people who used to run mainly unjacketed rounds through their Glocks for competition, no problem..they were just diligent about cleaning.
