The Concealed Carry Revolver: Is It Still Relavant

Is to me, carry at least one every day, sometimes two, or sometimes a pistol and revolver, but always one.

It definitely is to me...running errands on my day off with the 640 on the hip, and the 351PD in the offhand pocket.

As much as people love to tout reliability of new autos...in all of my classes, both as a student and as well as many helping a friend who was an instructor out...I have seen precisely two revolver failures; one was a high primer that locked up the cylinder, the second was the ejector rod backing out doing the same (That one happened to me).

On the other hand, I couldn’t tell you how many dozens of issues I've seen or experienced with autos; stovepipes, 3-point, one where the case actually did a 180° turn and wedged inside the ejection port...as well as the garden varieties FTF, FTE, and FTRB’s...the revolver is a LOT more reliable, hands down.

We won't even get into the concept of getting in a extremely close tussle, and the benefit of contact shots with a revolver, where an auto will get pushed out of battery...

I started my handgun shooting with a revolver and although I own more semi autos than revolvers , I share the same view as HansGruber . The revolvers are less prone to cause any problems. I have been lucky to never have had a problem with a revolver but I have certainly had issues with semi autos.

I also started out with a revolvers, my dads S&W model 15, and my S&W model 66. I too have more semi autos then revolvers right now, but that I think is going to change.....😬😬😬😬

I usually carry a semi-auto, but I do keep a couple of S&W J-Frames (642 & 351c) for one specific purpose. In cold weather, layering can make it difficult to immediately access the pistol on my waist. The J-Frames with concealed hammers offer the distinct advantage of being able to be fired from inside a jacket pocket. The chances of needing to do this may be rare, but it makes it worth keeping pocket revolvers around IMO.
