The Cost Of Accessories On A New Vehicle Specifically Trucks.

So the start of this thread is some tongue in cheek humor following that I’m curious as to what people are interested in when looking to upgrade to a new pick up truck. Feel free to add your thoughts on new vehicle purchases on sedans and SUV’s as well.
So I’m guessing we have all seen the GMC commercials on their trucks
“Multi Pro Tailgate” well if you’re buying a GMC truck that does not come standard with that tailgate you’ll pay an added $1,000.00 to get it.

Now most of you know I’m a Ford guy and with my F250 ride height being to high for me to easily get into the bed of the truck. My solution?

Now mine is not exactly this model but it only cost me around $50.00 dollars, it folds up easily and takes up very little room.
So following that what would you like to have in your new Truck/Vehicle and most importantly what are you willing to pay for that convenience/creature comfort?

Trucks are ridiculous. I have had a great many excellent trucks in my life. My favorite being a '97 F-350 with a Power Stroke and a 6 Speed tranny. I typically would get a different truck every 5 years or so. Right now I am still driving my 2005 Ram 1500 4x4 with the big Hemi. Sure I'd like a new truck, but thanks to "Cash for clunkers" a used truck in anything resembling decent condition is 15k or better. And new trucks literally cost more than what I paid for the house I live in. F that.

We won’t hold it against you for being a FORD guy.....honestly....😬😬😬😬

Ford truck guy here also, although our car is a Nissan suv-type. My truck isn't "raised", but is a stock 4x4, so a touch higher than the avg non-4x4 pickup. I also use a 3-step stepstool on occasion when transiting in/out of the truck bed at home.

As far as those fancy multi-folding "transformer" tailgates, I see them as multiple points of failure and/or rust. Hidden/extending running boards are in the same category, but I say each to their own if one desires those features.

I work for a Chrysler service department for a day job, and I hatehateHATE those automatic side steps. Open the door to check in a vehicle, and then those boards shove my shin away. Good thing they come out slowly!

My truck is a 2001 Ram 2500 4x4, Cummins 24v diesel, with a six speed stick. 267k miles, runs like a champ. I don't need a new truck. Just drove from MD to FL to pick up my new toy, and towed it back home to MD - zero problems, 17mpg towing at nearly 80mph.

I won't buy a new truck because a) mine is paid for, b) nobody makes a stickshift fullsize American truck anymore, and c) new trucks are STUPID-expensive. A base Cummins ram nowadays is $72k - no thanks, mine does just fine.

For getting in and out of the bed - if I don't have my tonneau cover on, I stand on one tire and throw a leg over the side of the bed.

One option I would consider - have even looked into adding it to my Ram - is a power slider rear window. My truck is a quad cab - suicide rear doors and a smaller back seat. I can reach the back window from the drivers seat, but not while driving. It'd be nice to have a toggle switch to open/close that back window - the ventilation is awesome with it open.

I had a 98 ram 2500 with 5.9 gas ran 270k, no serious issues aside from routine maintenance. Then I got an 06 ram 1500, got another quarter million from that one with a puny 4.7 gas engine. When the engine failed we dropped a hemi in for a new lease on life. That poor truck gave its life to save my wife and daughter from a semi . Head on collision, passenger compartment remained intact.
I have a 4x4 Nissan Armada now for convenience but I would go back into a ram or dodge if one was affordable.

I like simple. I want knobs for my a/c and radio, I want my shift lever to be a lever, not a knob, same for 4x4 transfer case. Not a fan of this "infotainment console or display "

Had two F150's (2001 & 2010) that had the pwr-operated rear slider windows. Used them occasionally. Current 2018 doesn't have it, but wanted that particular truck, so the absense of the rear slider wasn't a deal breaker. Before I bought the 2018, I test drove a 2019 F250 FX4. Man, that was a nice truck, and very roomy interior, just couldn't swing the payments. My brother asked me what I was gonna haul with a F250, and I said my 75lb kayak. Yep, it overrkill, but geez it was nice. :)

Last July I traded in my 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Megacab 4x4 with a Cummins diesel for a 2020 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 with a Cummins diesel. Had 250000 on the old Ram. I haven't gotten around to putting step bars on the new truck yet. No joke, this is what I use for the wife to get in, as it sits to high for her to get in. I put a string on the handle so she can pull it in the truck once she climbs in.

Truck prices are stupid crazy. Needs to be no frills, get crap done work truck. Get it muddy, Hose it out, do it all over again. Like a stripped Air Force tarmac truck. All the “bells and whistles” break and cause problems, up the price tag, and you treat it like a limousine .

$6511 tax title and license out the door. Brand new .f250 custom

when trucks were trucks
