While spring is creeping into most parts of the country, for those that live in areas with "real" & long-lasting winter (the white-stuff) weather it pays to know how vulnerable a firearm is to nasty winter conditions.

from my experience in cold weather hunting and shooting it all boils down to how clean your bolt is and what kind of lubes your oiling the bolt with. Some lubes won't thick'n or saturate into grease if you will in sub zero temps or even just below freezing. Some will. It's all in the lube!
 
I thought that was fascinating when the M-14 trigger froze...after hearing the sear click, the spring wasn't strong enuf to break the ice and get the hammer moving...pretty cool (pun intended).
