For those that have a G42 and have/can find 9mm Makarov (9x18mm).

Shoot What You Have - Brownells

Custom Glock® 42 in 9mm Makarov

Whenever there's an ammo shortage like the one we're experiencing right now, you shoot what you have. In my case, I have LOTS of 9mm Makarov (9x18mm), so I built a totally up-to-date, every day carry / EDC pistol chambered for this old Cold War Soviet cartridge. This Glock 42® has a Lone Wolf 9mm Makarov conversion barrel and a Streamlight TLR-6 laser sight / weapon light. The 9mm Mak round packs about as much punch as the G42's original .380 ACP chambering, but I tweaked the magazine to hold an extra round, so this gun has a little more firepower. I like to call it my "G42.5 Glockarov."

Lone Wolf - ALPHAWOLF BARREL FOR M/42 CONVERSION TO 9X18 MAKAROV STOCK LENGTH

Right now that LW 9mm MAK barrel is the cost of 3 bxs of 9mm in my area.

I don't have/want a G42 but I see much more 9mm Mak around here than alot of other pistol ammo.

Mostly, I agree...

But, the Glock 21 is still, in my experience, the best .45 polymer striker currently made.

To be honest I couldn't opine on that Hans. I have held about 10 Glocks in my hands and shot 3. And I couldn't tell you which 3 they were other than they were all full (or at least other than compact) size .45s. None of them impressed me enough to put more than 2 mags through. If I'm fair though it wasn't for any other reason really than I just hate the way they feel in my hands for some reason. I went to this LGS specifically to buy a Glock .45. I wanted to love them. I ended up going down the road and buying a 4" XD Mod 2.

Interesting idea. I'm pretty sure if I did it the price of 9mm Makarov would triple overnight. I'm basing this on the fact that I built two AR's chambered in 7.62x39 after Thanksgiving because 5.56 was going for close to $1 per round if you could even find it. At the time of my build 7.62 ammo was still widely available at Academy for $0.28-$0.34 per round. Now 7.62 is impossible to find at big box stores and goes for $0.60 per round plus shipping online. I'm not having much luck beating the system when it comes to ammo.
