The Incident that Lead me to EDC

If you think you're protective now, just wait until you have kids!
Yeah I've heard that before, unfortunately my wife and I aren't able to have children easily, we both have a genetic issues that make it a lot harder. We have been trying for over 12 years. It's ok though, we made our peace with it, we just live for each other, and our families have been very supportive. We ended up being the "Cool Aunt and Uncle" on her side of the family.

When my wife and I got married she forbade guns in our home.

In 2004 some maniac chased her down Nevada Avenue in Colorado Springs because there was a Bush 2004 bumper sticker on the car.

When she got home she was terrified. She had me take all of our bumper stickers off the car and told me she wanted to get her Concealed Handgun Permit.

We both got our Permits. I still carry, she quit when her arthritis got the best of her so now when she goes out I go with her.

Yep very similar situation, I am glad that your wife was ok, sorry to hear about her arthritis, I hope she is doing well.

I got mine 20 years ago when a punk pulled a gun on me from a car. I was young enough to pull him out thru the window and punch him until he passed out. That was the last time I took a walk without a firearm. Now i'm a wee older and do not think I could perform that stunt again. If they act stupid they will get shot, plain and simple. At the time the cops were stunned I did that!

That's Awesome! Yeah getting old sucks!

Hello everyone, I just joined the forum about a week ago, and I wanted to share some information with you all. I am 40 years Old, married, and I was in the Army National Guard back in 2003. After the military I really had no desire or need to purchase a firearm. The community I live in isn't that bad, and most people keep to themselves here. Well that changed a couple of months ago. My wife was doing deliveries at night, and she was followed, and harassed by another driver who seemed to want to drive her off the road. She was so shaken over it that she went to the police, but unfortunately they couldn't do anything to help her. At that point I realized that I couldn't always be there to help her and it also put into perspective how we both were vulnerable. I then made a decision to purchase a firearm for both her and myself. I got my CCW Permit and so did she, and I also paid to have basic safety and shooting classes for her, so she could get comfortable with handling a firearm. I carry a 1911 Springfield Mil-Spec on a suspender holster (leather one, think old detective movies type of holster on leather suspenders)
I also found a very supporting community here on this forum, and I have been looking firearm information ever since. I am not sure if anyone else here has a similar story, but I hope all of you take care out there.
Good on you for getting trained up and your wife too. Great training also includes some retention drills and fighting with your gun. (Use a plastic fake training gun, they are like 20 bucks). Also learning to fight through malfunctions and the like. There are places that teach Krav Maga, and the great thing about that program is it’s designed to get you trained quickly and it’s not too complex. They do what works, including weapons training.
That, along with some LEO and Military training has led me to be more concerned about knives than guns. Anyone can use a knife and the bad guys train on getting close quick…so you may have to go hands on with basic open hand knife defense skills before you can get to your gun. Thinking about that and having a basic set of skills to use and training them is key.
