the joy of country life

about 6pm we thought 1 of the cats were in the house? 6 hours later it was found along with at least 3 kittens..............yup, she had them in the house under 1 of the kids bed's. she placed herself as so not too be seen behind some boxes. meanwhile (as of writing this) there were some 5-6 month old kittens running around chasing and growling at each other. we to see what they were doing because the growling sounded like 1 had something the others wanted...............(most of the time it's an insect or bug) it wasn't the usual as it sounded more fierce.............1 had a big rat that was almost as big as the kitten...........it is mostly alive and hopefully end up killing it as it was brought inside the building where i reload and the cats hang out when the weather gets cool as to stay warm. 2 were having a tug-of-war with it and 1 ended up victorious. the kitten is hiding under a rolling storage cabinet for now with its prize.

We have outside cats which is beneficial to us in keeping rodents, thus snakes, under control. There are front porch cats, back porch cats, barn cats, rental cabin cats, the neighbor's cats, roaming strays, and the occasional Opossum that come for the cat food buffet Mrs Greener puts out for them, but rarely do they mix. There's a Dr Seuss story in there somewhere

only thing missing Hays is the perimeter defense cats. Well reknowned for striking fear into house intruders they wait quietly for the moment.

Not too many feral cats around here. We see the odd feline roaming around, but they don't hang around. We have natural predators around (coyotes, the odd wolf or bear, even a cougar or two have been spotted on trail cams). We have winged ones too. There are a lot of eagles nests in the ares and we see them around a lot, along with hawks and owls. I kind of wish there were a few cats around. Maybe they would be able to drive off the gophers, as the other predators around don't seem too interested in them..
