I have fired Russian , Eastern Bloc and everything in between for AK and SKS. Expensive and cheap models alike.

Cannot stand them. I appreciate what they are, but the AK ranks up their with the German Luger. Filled a need en masse. Doesn't mean it was the best.

AK is like an IPA beer. It gets the job done. All I can say for it.

Sidenote:
Want to know why the Russian Army wears face coverings all the time.
Its not itimidation, its because they dont want to be photographed holding an AK 😁😉

The Luger cheap and easy production ?

I was wondering that myself…

The Luger is probably one of the most complicated and difficult to produce handguns fielded by a major military…it’s the entire reason the P38 was invented, and German officers carried a wide variety of sidearms…

I’ve never heard anyone seriously refer to a Luger as the “be all” handgun…they’re complicated, temperamental, prone to malfunction in actual field conditions…sure, they’re accurate and just beautiful to look at, but the “be all” pistol they ain’t.

Usually, the “be all” is reserved for 1911’s or Glocks;)

As for AK’s and SKS’s? They’re cheap to produce yet reliable, with fair to middlin’ accuracy. Own a few, shoot ‘em occasionally. The 7.62x39 round is a good round though; personally, I prefer it in other platforms…the newer Ruger Mini-30, Galils, Valmets, or the VZ58.

You had a valid counter until you said Glock 😉

I always loved the 7.62x39 because of the low price for steel-cased bulk ammo. I have a Chicom SKS, an AK-47, and even a home-built AR chambered in 7.62x39. I truly enjoy and appreciate the SKS. While I like my AK-47 and AR-47, I'll be just as happy firing .223/5.56 through an AR platform if the cheap steel-cased stuff disappears forever.
