The L42A1 is a 7.62x51 mm NATO sniper rifle developed from the World War II-vintage .303 No.4 (T).
The original Lee-Enfield (bottom) in .303 caliber served as the standard British army sniper rifle until 1970.
The L42A1 (top) was converted from standard rifles by rebarreling the actions for the more powerful 7.62x51 mm round.
