A Builder’s Guide to the M16A5 Concept Rifle. There was/has never been an official designation of the M16A5 rifle. The image in the cover of this very article is actually the Canadian C7A2. This configuration is extremely shootable. It’s one of my favorite rifles in the safe and works very well for a variety of tasks.

The M16/AR-15A5 Concept Rifle

I've gone this route on some builds because they fit my AOPs very well.

Have one of those myself; Colt 20” HBAR flat-top upper with a KAC rail, and a UBR buttstock. Leopold Mk4 1-4x.

Heavy pig, though.

I built up two. BCM flat-top upper, & lower. Standard 20" contour BCM barrels w/A2 FSP, one with a rail (lightweight Keymod & one standard rifle handguard), LaRue MBT-2, Magpul ACS-L stocks. (UBRs) were too heavy for my design needs. And 1-4X 30mm LPVOs.

I have an 18" version that's almost identical to the railed one to test that barrel length.
