I had a Remington 1917 Eddystone it looks just like 1903 Springfield 30-06 rifle. I purchase it in 1975 while stationed at FT. Hood Texas at a TARGET store they were selling many Surplus WWI rifles cheap I think I paid $65.00 for it and I purchased 1000 rounds of WWII surplus ammo for $25.00 It was military 30-06 ammo and it was black-tipped that noted armor-piercing ammo. I was at a 500 meter KD range and I was able to shoot it, I was impressed how accurate it was and how precise the iron sights were the rifle looked like new covered in grease wrapped in brown paper. That barrel they were all standing in also hand some 303 British bolt rifles my buddy purchased two one was a Jungle Carbine and the other was a longer-barreled 303. We shot the crap out of those because the range was open on Saturday for Privately owned civilian weapons you could shoot at the KD Range, or the pistol Range or shoot skeet. I took advantage of that for the 3 years I spent at FT Hood. I had that old rifle re-barreled and sporterized the action was slick as glass and the trigger was adjustable. I traded it off about 35 years ago like most of the firearms I have owned in the past. I would like to have an old WWII ERA 1903 A4 Springfield sniper rifle with the M73 scope. That would be a safe queen for sure.
