from the article "The fire control also features wireless connectivity, allowing users to potentially work with the Integrated Visual Augmentation System, or IVAS, a helmet-mounted situational awareness and night vision device that’s currently under development as part of a joint venture between the Army and Microsoft." Let's hope then, that the microsoft famous "blue screen of death" doesn't occur during its use here.

Too expensive for me. Really like the caliber. Didn't pay attention to the rifle's weight and how many mags in a soldiers load out. If not mistaken these are some of the reasons the M-14 went away.
There were a lot of us in the Nam that preferred the M-14, and I imagine its use in Germany would have been better than the M-16. The U.S. made NATO buy into the 7.62x51 round then a few years later we abandoned it and made NATO switch again. Is an M-14 heavy…yes. But it was designed to be a battle rifle that stood up to the crap that a battle rifle is supposed to. If I could afford one, I would buy it for….you know…

Started out with the M-14 in basic training in 64. If my memory is correct never saw or handled a M-16 till my arrival in South Vietnam in 67. Worked with some Navy Seabees that all had M-14s wish we would have had the option to have them.

Reasonable weight, practical distance range, and reliable.....

That thing looks like a boat anchor loaded up.

Not to mention the average Army infantryman isn't trained to shoot past 300 meters.........

Need I further elaborate?

And don’t even begin to discuss the hybrid case the military version uses…this alone is going to increase cost per round substantially over conventional brass case-plus those pressure levels combined with a high rate of fire can not be good for barrel life…looks like a high tech solution to a low tech problem from here.

An elaboration...

As of right now, NGSW program is only intended for the close combat force consisting of Infantry, Cav Scouts, Combat Engineers, SOF, and select enablers. That means there are just over 13,000 XM-7 and XM250s being fielded to replace the M4's, M240s and M249 SAWs in those formations.

Those formations aren't the average Army infantryman.

The goodness keeps coming...

Over 120,000 Soldiers, since when did Rangers and SOF types account for numbers like that?

That's enough to equip EVERY Marine, and probably the entire Marine Reserve.........

True, but things must, and always do change.......
