There were a lot of us in the Nam that preferred the M-14, and I imagine its use in Germany would have been better than the M-16. The U.S. made NATO buy into the 7.62x51 round then a few years later we abandoned it and made NATO switch again. Is an M-14 heavy…yes. But it was designed to be a battle rifle that stood up to the crap that a battle rifle is supposed to. If I could afford one, I would buy it for….you know…Too expensive for me. Really like the caliber. Didn't pay attention to the rifle's weight and how many mags in a soldiers load out. If not mistaken these are some of the reasons the M-14 went away.
That’s correct Mr. Belt Fed. I bought the civilian version 16” 8.6x51 Spear MCX, and a Vortex Razor HD Gen III 1-10x24 LVPO. I also installed a FDE Magpul bi-pod & a BCM Mod 3 vertical grip (bi-pod & grip bought at that evil Optics Planet place ).I think @BET7 just bought one of these.
Started out with the M-14 in basic training in 64. If my memory is correct never saw or handled a M-16 till my arrival in South Vietnam in 67. Worked with some Navy Seabees that all had M-14s wish we would have had the option to have them. There were a lot of us in the Nam that preferred the M-14, and I imagine its use in Germany would have been better than the M-16. Reasonable weight, practical distance range, and reliable.....
That thing looks like a boat anchor loaded up.
Not to mention the average Army infantryman isn't trained to shoot past 300 meters.........
Need I further elaborate?
And the USMC back-pedaled and went from the 20" A2/A4's to the lower-performance US Army 14.5" M4.Yeah, and the AR was only intended for Airforce Security personnel too........
Just say'n.......
