The U.S. Army’s OV-1 Mohawk, which did have a lengthy career as a surveillance aircraft, is one of the earliest examples of competing priorities and infighting between services killing plans for what could have also been an effective light attack platform.

OV-1Ds with SLAR in West Germany were especially useful in running the inter-German and Czech border traces. Us folks patrolling on the ground received regular SLAR reports.

I always thought the OV-1 and OV-10 looked like giant insects on the ramp. But the pilots loved them.
