The Remington XP-100

Remington’s XP-100 was an interesting idea though not necessarily an original idea in the sense that individuals had shortened rifles in the past to turn them into convenient “handguns”. The new XP-100 pistol was based on the Remington 600 rifle action with the trigger mechanism moved forwards into what might nowadays be referred as a “bull-pup” location, except this was a pistol.

Had one of these in my silhouette shooting days, it was chambered in a wildcat round....338CJMK got it from SSK Industries.....the CJMK stood for Crowley-Jones-Masterdon-Killer, it was a .35 Remington case necked down to .338 caliber, fired a 200gr bullet out of the magnaported barrel about 3100fps.....cannon......plain and simple

I never did like the looks of these and actually didn't have any use for one. However this is why we have so many different brands and styles so everyone can find something that suits them.

I've always liked and wanted one. They were and probably will always be out of reach.

I must admit i am 71 years old,and I have never seen some of the firearms I see on these forums i belong too before.

Way back when I first got into silhouette competitions (early 70's IIRC) I closely considered the XP100, but gadds it was just so ugly to me, so I chose a Thompson Center Contender instead and never looked back. I shot several different comps with that same Contender using different bbls/calibers. I did win a couple state (in class) and several local/regional matches with that Contender and still have it today. Ooops, not quite true. I forgot, I did trade the first Contender I owned for a 2nd gen somewhere along the line, but I do still have that one. I also hunted with it a good bit and took several deer and untold numbers of feral hogs over the years.

When my step-dad passed away a couple years ago I inherited his Contender that he used to shoot some of the matches with me. Since I already had mine, I shot dad's a few times then gave it to my 'yard' son. Hopefully one day he and I will go toe to toe with the two contenders at some old left over steel silhouetts, and maybe even a hog hunt or two.
