THE SAINT

Hey there new to the forum. Not quite sure how to post video. But I have a general question to the people that own the saint. I recently acquired a saint new in the box. I was intrigued by the "out of the box upgrades." I like the trigger it is smooth and the pull is much easier than my military issue m4. But taking it out today trying to sight in my romeo juilette combo I kept hitting high at 25 yards. ( yes I am aware about bullet arch from 25 to 50 yard shot placement). No matter what I did it kept shooting high. Burned about 50 rounds until I decided to take it to a gunsmith that knew more than me. We hooked it up to his fancy boresight off his high speed tripod. He said I was pretty close to on as it sat. Then taking it off the tripod the issue revealed itself. The upper and lower were so far out of alignment there was no way I could have gotten a good grouping. Now it was an easy enough fix. ( I used an o ring i happend to have) But the part that dumbfounded me I'd how does that not get picked up in quality control. I know no one is perfect but I defenitley expected more out of springfield. To put upgraded internals and then not check the marriage line is just disappointing. If I can figure out how to post the video I will. I was wondering if this was just a one off. Or is this an actual problem for the saint series. Thanks.

I'd have to see the pictures. I've never seen loose fitting receivers affect accuracy.

Seems more likely the gun is zeroed currently for a different distance than you are shooting it at.

And boresighting isn't even close to a legitimate barometer for accuracy.

Use a bench rest and zero it to 36 or 50 yards with the magnifier flipped out of the way and using the elevation turret on the Romeo.

You are assuming that every rifle is ran thru quality control. Having worked for DP in manufacturing what I have seen is every x number of examples are chosen for inspection. And as noted you might be using different parameters than it was set up for.

This is why, for example, I like BCM or SOLGW for bolt carrier groups. They test and inspect each unit rather than batch testing. Having a full warranty is all good and fine, but sending things back and waiting is a well known drag. It's nice to buy something and be confident that it will be right, period.

This is indeed a selling point for those manufacturers that go rhe extra testing mile.

I posted video. The marriage line between the upoer and lower is pretty significant. And the slop/wobble on the upper was so bad I couldn'get a solid grouoing until after i put an oring in the front take down pin. I have built ar's and would never have let that leave my shop. Me thinking it was from springfield it would be good to go didnt even check. That's why I was wondering if it was just a new guy at quality control or if this was an actual issue.

You didn't post a video anyone could actually see. When I click on it it says your account is set to private.

I have a 308 sittin at the radical arms plant now cause it won't work. been there twice. first was not by me. i bought it used. the gun shop sent it back for me and they talked to the radical guys. the gunsmith even took it out and tried to make it work. he said the upper is the culprit and he thinks it can't be fixt. the owner told the radical people he would prefer them send me a new one. we will see. now of course the radical gun cost nothing like the saint but there was absolutely no play between the halves. it's all billet, upper and lower. we bout to see if Radical arms comes through for it's customers. the gunsmith even sent them videos and pics he took of it stovepiping and jamming.
