The Sporterized M38 Swedish Mauser

USMC6094

Custom
This is just a primer, this rifle was bought already modified and I've done one necessary modification, that now dictates another.
Anyway, here's how she looked when I brought her home.

4 power Bushnell scope, Leupold base and rings, unknown maker composite stock, and Multicam sling.
The stock isn't even a small ring specific one, the inletting is too large to properly fit the receiver, but the mounting bolt holes line up, so it's ugly, bit it works.

Anyway more pics, and the continuing saga to follow.....

Well, I replaced the Bushnell with this.....

Little did I know what I was in store for......
I still think boresighting feels like an unnatural act lol, but I got it figured out.

The Leupold required the bolt handle to be relieved, so, hand tools and patience got the job done. Only to reveal that with the standard bolt knob it makes bolt manipulation a tad close, so the next modification will be cutting, and threading the knob to fit an aftermarket knob that'll add an inch or two to the handle length.
Here it is so far.....

I cold blued the bare metal, and broke all the sharp edges.

Other to-do's are widening the barrel channel forward of the chamber to free float the barrel.

Saturdays range trip also brought to light a problem I wasn't expecting.
The barrel and receiver have been coated (what coating, I don't know) and when it was done, it's last owner didn't plug the bolt lug recesses, or the chamber, so, you guessed it, there was (is) coating in the chamber. So, I'm going to give it a good scrubbing with an 8mm bore brush swaddled in a patch soaked with what's referred to as Baby $#!+ in the Navy and Marine Corps, whatever is in the chamber finish wise, will come out, no matter it's chemical composition.
Buy that's coming this weekend.
