with out reading the entire story, i know for one thing, that here, there were many old factories, that have burnt down.
those old factories had machinery as we all know, and machinery uses all sorts of oils/lubes to keep'em running.
the one thing no factory worker ever considered was the seeping of the oils into the floors, beams, etc.
once that wood gets buring, and the oil catches fire, you can pretty much call that building a total loss. if the 4 walls are still standing...then an investor buys it, and either rebuilds it into apartments, or condos......especially if it is a stone building.
or knocks it down, and starts fresh...
