Hey there!
That's right! Mrs. BassCliff has been visiting her Mom. "When the cat's away..." Ya know?
Right after church today I stopped by the range. After all, it's on the way home.
This is the older facility of Fletcher Arms. Same great folks, just a little older technology on the range itself. I got lane #7, my favorite!
I had four pistols with me but chose to work exclusively with my new 9mm target pistol, the XDM Elite Precision and its 5.25" barrel, fiber optic front and adjustable rear sights. And before you say anything, yes, perhaps I was a little generous when I oiled it up after cleaning it last night.
The first ten hits of this session were not impressive. I was shooting at 10 yards the whole time today.
These magazines hold 22 rounds but I just put 20 rounds in to keep them all loaded consistently and then come out even at the end of my 150 rounds that I'd brought today. Note: I was going to shoot only 100, but I was not having the results I was hoping for. For example, here's target #2. I'm just trying to keep all 20 rounds in the 4" circle but still let a couple get out into the 8 ring of my B-8 target. Drat.
There were a few in the 9 ring too. That's not too bad. Here's 20 rounds on target #3. I let even more get out into the 8 ring.
OK, let's patch it up again and put 20 more rounds on target #4. Either I'm getting tired or bored or impatient. The flyers are really spreading out.
For this last magazine, rounds 80-100, I thought perhaps an 8" circle with it's larger red bullseye dot would help me. Foiled again! I still let one sneak off the target.
This is when I decided to shoot another box, 150 rounds today instead of 100. I had to try to redeem myself. I checked my watch and figured the pooch at home could last another 50 rounds before I got there to let him out. I hope. I hung up a fresh b-8 target, sent it out to ten yards, fired 20 rounds, and it came back like this.
How about that? Except for one hit right on the number '9', that's nineteen hits inside or dangerously close to the 10 ring. OK, I guess that last click on the rear sight helped. I've got thirty rounds left. The plan is to put 20 hits in the upper left circle, five in the upper right circle, then two or three at the dots on the bottom. Here's the upper left.
If you are so inclined as to grant me a generous line break, I could then count only two hits outside the 4" circle. Aw, c'mon. Let the old noob have a break.
Let's finish my plan on this target. As you can see, after I do well on one string, I can get a little cocky and in a hurry on the next string.
But now I know that if I do everything right, this pistol will do its job well. I'm going to take this XDM down to my basement laser range just to make sure POA and POI are the same. I can use my laser cartridge and phone app as sort of a poor man's laser bore sight. That should be fun. Thanks for hanging out with me today. Blessings to you and yours.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
