Note: Contrary to the authors assertion 1911's in .38 Super are readily available from several manufacturers.

The .38 Super was introduced in the 1911 handgun in 1929 to arm peace officers with a hard-hitting handgun saw extensive use in the hands of the FBI

I was unaware of the .38 Super 1911 before I watched Paul Harrell fire his .38 Super Colt 1911 in several of his videos. I don't have the time/energy/money to add another caliber to my collection at this time, but a .38 Super 1911 is on my list of guns to buy "someday". Even if I had the disposable income to add a new caliber to my safe, I'd probably ease into it by buying one of the two Rock Island models chambered in .38 Super. I couldn't bring myself to buy something like a Colt or Custom 1911 until I had some experience with the cartridge.
